My Profile

My name is Ahmed Nasser, I was born in 1980. I got married in 2002 and nowadays I got two lovely daughters, Al Yazeya and Al Hanoof. I am living with my whole family in a big villa which is located in an area called ALMuroor in Abu Dhabi. I have got four brothers and three sisters and I am the second one. I am working in a government company who are responsible for the health of the food consumers. I have a good position at work and the salary is good enough for me but if there is more I will be happy. Regarding my study, I am studying at the Higher College of Technology, the major is food inspection. I already got the diploma in 2005 but now I am completing my Higher Diploma without stopping until I got the Bachelor. I think it’s too difficult for a man like me to work, study, run his own business and to have a time to sit with his family. Now let me tell you about my hobbies, camping is my best hobby, I like doing it when I have holiday for more than five days or if I am in a long vacation. Usually I take the whole family with me to give them a break from the city environment. I also like buggies because it let you feel amazing while driving on the sand dunes.

• American Cool Cities.

1.Charlotte North CarolinaThe government has changed the fuel of cars to a hybrid gas.

2.Washington DCHas changed their buses to natural gas which is less than the diesel fuel to improve air pollution and cut global warming pollution.

3.St Paul Minnesota.Providing electricity by using a renewable resource as its primary fuel.

4.Houston – Texas. The government has started to reduce emissions by using hybrid vehicles. By the year 2010 they will have no petrol cars. A hybrid vehicles are produce about 43 tones of carbon less than the average of other cars.

5.Seattle.They have replaced old vehicles with a “ clean and Green fleet and have sett strict rules about CO2 emission. They have already reduced green house gases by 60 percent.

6.Fort Collins.Fort Collins uses renewable energy wind to reduce global warming and has reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 472,000 tons.

7.Waverly Lowa.Waverly Lowa municipality has used wind energy to reduce the emission of CO2 in the city. This method who helps provide local economic development.

8.Twin falls-Idaho.
They reduce energy costs and cut pollution by increasing the energy efficiency of its 11 schools. This include the lightning, ventilation and air condition systems by this the city saved $3.5 million in energy savings.

Saadiyat Island.

It’s a wonderful to change the climate and to develop our country. In fact, it will help to increase our economic by attracting tourists to visit our city and they can also buy private land for investment, so I think these developments aren’t for local people to solve their problem. It’s only for business and how to get money and also to share the world with their problem which is global warming and how to avoid that.

Describing a Cool City

Human’s life began to change by time to time which helps them to have easy life or in the other word it give to them a health and happiness. In fact the world is crossing to another way, our earth has benefited from this industrial revolution, but it has a pollution which helps to destroy our planet by causing global warming. All human activities are producing CO2 which is the main source to make an climate change.

Our earth will be in the danger zone while if we doing something to change or to decline the percentage of carbon footprint If we don't solve these problems which we made it by our hands. In addition, there were some people who try to let people aware about this situation. By the year, they have taken up challenge and created a new technique to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide by building a Cool City where everything is eco-friendly to our environment.

Cool city will help to decrease the percent of CO2. Because of their building are build from green and all types of equipment or life stuff is green, which is friendly for the earth. Moreover, there will be three types of transportation there friendly to our planet for instant solar ships, light rail transit and hybrid cars. Over all, it will help to reduce the amount of electricity, waste and water. In other words, it helps to save our money and energy.

All in all, these cities are the best solution to save our earth and to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide and it also will affects for all who have carbon footprint on this earth which will raise the pollution in the future and cause the global warming.

One Planet Living

If everyone lived like an average North American we would need five planets. If everyone lived like an average European we would need three planets. If everyone lived like an average Emirati we would need eleven planets. Our global footprint grew by 150% between 1961 and 2003. It is now 25% above the planet's biological capacity to support life on earth. The WWF has developed an initiative called One Planet Living. It has ten guiding principles.Masdar is going to be developed using these principles.

Explain the ten guiding principles using your own words.

1- Zero Carbon: create things which are reducing or not produce CO2.

2- Zero Waste: all types of waste can be recycling and reusable.

3- Sustainable transport: Changing all kind of cars and vehicles which increase the amount of the CO2

4- Local and Sustainable Materials: less import of any type of materials from outside.

5- Local and Sustainable Food: trying to get their food from their land without importing from others countries to avoid any pollution which happens during transporting.

6- Sustainable water: The freshwater supply must be easy to find and safe to use it for all purposes

7- Natural Habitats and Wildlife: Trying to protect the environment and preserve the wildlife animals so they will protect the natural environment and will not destroy it.

8- Culture and Heritage: Because of globalization the local identity will be loss anyone who isn’t saves his cultures and history of his people or his land he will not have a clear future.

9- Equity and Fair-trade: all type of people should have the same chances of life facilities .

10- Health and Happiness: when there is increasing of income for the human they will be more healthy and happy.
---------------------------------------------- ------------------ ---------------------- ------------------------
Which principles do you think will be difficult for Masdar City to maintain?

1- Local and Sustainable Materials.

2- Equity and Fair-trade.

What are the three goals of the One Planet Living programme?

1- Build the One Planet Living Communities world-wide network.

2- Establish One Planet Living Center in each One Planet Living community as a focus for education.

3- Promote guiding for the One Planet Living.

Masdar is one of the Emerging One Planet communities, where are the others?

Johann Haris' opinion

(We will save the planet only if we are forced to)

Mr. Johann Hari is one of the militant and fighter who destroyed our planet without thinking about other living things. Moreover, Hari fights to let people reduce the contaminant amount of the environment pollution. For instance, he blame most of the governments did nothing regarding saving the planet. Hari want to see strong rules and laws in those countries and other. However he has been developed many solutions which will help to protect our environment from all type of pollution, by produce and approve some eco-friend material and equipments which will not affect our environment and forcing other people to change their lifestyles.
To conclude, I agree with him and I think that is the best way to save our planet when Mr. Hari said that the government must put a strong rules.

GLOBAL WARMING

An Inconvenient Truth

The aim to call the move “ An in convenient Truth “ is to show the importance of the global warming and to let all people know how big is the danger that is going to be faced in the coming years.
AL Gore’s presentation shows many factors which lead to the global warming and he suggest many urgent action must be taken immediately to avoid the happening of that crisis.

The presentation of Al Gore talks about the danger of Carbon Dioxide level and the relationship between the CO2 and the temperature increase and how it’s going to affect the global warming and the ice glaciers which will be melted. So the level of water will increase which means many islands are going to be cover under the sea water level.

The United Arab Emirates is taking this crisis seriously as many other countries. The government has spent a lot of money without stopping to protect the UAE environment from the global warming. The last project of saving the earth from this crisis is “Mazda City “. This city Cost billions and billions to stop the CO2 level from increasing and to produce a healthy environment for the people inside the United Arab Emirates.

My reaction regarding the An Inconvenient Truth

In my opinion, the movie taught me many scientific facts which lead to the global warming and how we can resist or protect the environment from these factors. On the other hand, the movie gives us some solutions which we should follow to protect the earth from the Inconvenient Truth.
Finally, I think me, you or anybody should ask himself these questions: “Do I love the earth? “ “Am I one of the factors which cause global warming? “ If yes, “How can I correct my bad behaviors regarding this crisis? “.

Cool Cities

Cool Cities are the best way to reduce the factors which lead to the global warming. In those types of cities the pollution and energy waste will be reduce. The major reason of those cities is to save us and our environment from the global warming problem. Moreover, Cool Cities will ensure that we are going to live in a clean environment .In this project I’m going to provide some advantages of the Cool Cities by doing some researches. For example, I will research about some topics like “Mazda” the Cool City which is going to be in Abu Dhabi.

Carbon Footprint

A carbon footprint is a measure of the amount of carbon dioxide emissions that can be attributed to an organization, product or individual. ‘Carbon footprint’ has become a widely used term and concept in the public debate on responsibility and abatement action against the threat of global climate change. It had a tremendous increase in public appearance over the last few months and years and is now a buzzword widely used across the media, the government and in the business world. I got 2.8 in a footprint test.
I have lots of daily bad habits that lead to increase the Carbon footprint size. Using some machines that need fossil fuels to work in my farm and driving four wheel cars for long time are the major problem. This problem increases the amount of CO2 in the air. Throwing lots of home wastes such as plastic and glass is the second problem. These kinds of materials are not going to destroy from the environment. The third problem is using electricity. Using many electric devices at home that means using more electricity which depend on fossil fuels products to work.
I am going to display some suitable solutions for those mentioned problems. First of all, using small car and trying to use transportation is good solution for the first problem. The solution for the second problem is using environmental friendly staff. That thing will help in keeping environment. Switching off the lights when we don’t need them and decreasing the dependence on electric machines as much as we can are the third solution. Those solutions are going to decrease the amount of CO2 in the air which helps to decrease the size of carbon footprint.
In summary, starting to correct our bad habits is first step in the right road. Trying to spread the information of carbon footprint effects and the solutions for them will help all people to understand and to help in decreasing of carbon footprint effects.

Indonesia

There are thousands of islands in the east of Asia close to each other comprising an Islamic country called Indonesia. The capital of Indonesia is called Jakarta .The Indonesian economy depends on the rainforests. In this essay I will discuss the Indonesian forest problem and how it effects the environment.
First of all, Indonesia is endowed with some of the biggest forests in the world. Tens of millions of Indonesians depend directly on these forests for their livelihoods, whether gathering forest products for their daily needs or working in the wood-processing sectors of the economy. On the other hand, China’s economy depends on these forests to export their furniture to all over the word. In addition, the Chinese government warned their people to stop cutting the trees after the flooding happened in China. They let their people substitute to steal timber located an Indonesian islands. The weak economy of Indonesians let their people destroy 10 million hectors of forest for illegal business requirement. Moreover, there were some problem will happen because of cutting trees. There will be no air cycling of a high percentage of CO2 which will affects and increase the temperature in Indonesia and the surrounding countries. .
Finally, Indonesia and China government signed an agreement to stop cutting forest trees when they feel that it effects their environment and they agreed for the new solution for their economy which is related to these trees by planting a new type of trees which grows fast rather than cutting forest trees. Also they agreed to fine all illegal loggers.
All in all, we have to respect our nature by planting trees. And we have to say thanks for our country when they celebrate the week of the tree.

Lebanon

Lebanon is the smallest country in the Arabic region and it is located in the heart of the Middle East. It is surrounded by Jordan, Syria, Cyprus, Turkey and Palestine. Lebanon is called in the bible “The land of milk and honey”. The capital Beirut is called “Paris of the East”. The Lebanese people came from amazing mixture of backgrounds and religious groups.
The mixture of religious and backgrounds in Lebanon was the major cause of tensions like what happened between Muslims and Christians in 1943 to 1948. In 1943 after independence, Christians Lebanese held the balance of power and Muslims had little say in running of their country. This was the main reasons that made tensions between Lebanese.
Other reason was 100000 of Palestinians (Sunni) Muslims who get out of Palestine and poured into Lebanon, but the tensions reached to the peak in 1975 when a radical Christian group “The Phalange” attacked and killed Palestinians in downtown Beirut while they are in a bus. Then killing became out of control.
As a result of civil war the army of Syria entered Lebanon divided into two groups. Muslims retreated into western half of the city while Christians occupied east Beirut. In 1982 the Israeli army invaded Beirut with the aim of removing the Palestinian Liberation Organization. The peace deal reached Lebanon in 1989. In that civil war, between 150 thousand to 200 thousand people died and 300000 were wounded. A quarter of population left the country and for many years Beirut’s economy was paralyzed. The disadvantages of war, the social and economic recovery in Beirut and there were four signs for that recovery. The first sign was the businessman in the Gulf States started pouring money into Lebanon in a way of investments. After that the governments invite the foreigners to rebuild Beirut. Then, all groups started living in Beirut without any problems. The last sign, many investments doing by riches countries have been done in Beirut.Nowadays, the problems returned back to Lebanon because of the major reason which is mentions before and that’s why Lebanon till now without a president.
